![]() You can read about Cat's journey to where she is today on Sue Bryce's blog, here. Her teachings have not only made me a better photographer, a better business owner, but a better person. I am looking forward to continuing along this path and learning from Sue every day. It is surreal and empowering and I am so grateful to Sue and her mentorship these past three years. With certainty and conviction I have not only built a successful portrait studio here in the mountains of North Carolina, but I have been recognized as a leader in my field by THE leader in my field of portrait photography. As I write this here, it still almost doesn't seem real. On day two of the master class, the 7 photographers led by Sue addressed how to not only expand their businesses but created goals to create a sustainable future in their businesses and were then named by Sue as leaders in the field of portrait photography. They were given full access to Sue's incredible studio wardrobe and created some incredible imagery together. During the master class, Cat spent a full day photographing the beautiful Amanda Rouse while being broadcast live to an audience of over 500. In January of 2017, Cat was invited alongside 6 other amazing photographers to participate in a master class, led by Sue in her Los Angeles portrait studio. It is for my own betterment as an artist which in turn, I am hopeful will benefit my business in some way but for right now, it’s for me and my own desire to create purely for creation, showcasing my skills, and telling a story through imagery. I am actively building this folio for submission that I LOVE. Even as I type this, I am awaiting my hair and makeup artist and a professional dancer to arrive within the hour to create imagery for the next call for entries in a few months. See more ideas about male portrait, photography, portrait. I timidly entered and received awards for each of the entries I made in that first call for entries. It has always been soulful but technically missed the mark more often than I care to admit. ![]() Skeptical that I could even place because I didn’t feel my work was very good. When Sue first announced the awards and accreditation program within The Portrait Masters I was skeptical. I have definitely made some mistakes I’m not proud of and learned some BIG lessons in some challenging circumstances however it is all part of building my own character in tandem with my business. I look at my personal pains and triumphs through the lens of “becoming” now. Her education also put me into a position where I could learn about myself in a way I had never even considered. It forced me to learn everything I could about my camera (still learning everyday), how to actually CREATE imagery instead of just pointing and hoping for the best. Her education, as I’ve mentioned time and again legit changed my business. One of the things I’ve always carried shame around I think was my lack of formal training in Photography beyond some darkroom classes at a community college in the late 90’s. Pretty lost, very scared, and couldn’t figure out my business from a hole in the ground. When I first found Sue Bryce I was pretty lost.
